Abstract:Objective To explore the mediating effect of mental resilience on pain management self-efficacy and quality of life in elderly patients with chronic pain. Methods A total of 96 elderly patients with chronic pain were selected from Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, the Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing University Medical School from January to December 2021 by convenient sampling method. Psychological resilience scale, pain management self-efficacy scale, and elderly quality of life assessment scale were used to investigate the enrolled patients, and the mediation effect was verified by Bootstrap method. Results Mental resilience was positively correlated with pain self-management efficacy and quality of life (r=0.456, 0.478, P<0.05). Psychological resilience had a partial mediating effect between pain self-management efficacy and quality of life in elderly patients with chronic pain, accounting for 52.1% of the total effect. Conclusion The mental resilience and pain self-management of the elderly patients with chronic pain are in the middle and low level, and the quality of life needs to be improved. The level of mental resilience can affect pain management self-efficacy and quality of life in elderly patients with chronic pain. It is suggested that hospitals, communities and families can provide encouragement and support to patients to enhance their mental resilience, improve their pain management self-efficacy, and improve their quality of life.
